What the Fuck: A Non-Spoiler Film Review of Midsommar (2019) by Ari Aster

This is very challenging for me because (1) I do not watch trailers and read non-spoiler film briefers such as this, so to my horror, I have no idea how they are structured, (2) I am not geared with Film theories and other technical knowledge, and lastly, (3) Midsommar's brilliance lies in its mystery so I don't know what to illuminate about. Also, it has been my tradition to read film reviews after, and for the sake of this challenge I had been holding on since I've watched it last night to be /unclouded of normal cognition, to be open from the source/.

From Hereditary, one will certainly have relative expectatons from the kind of suspense in watching Midsommar, but perhaps my mistake was to typecast the Director and Writer solely from his only last full-length. [I haven't seen the short films yet]. I don't think Ari Aster is all about creating suspense, I think more than it he wants to show blatantly what odd is. And odd is probably spookier than any shocker scenes out there. The only spoiler I got about the film was a beer session with a stranger who summarized all his reactions to, "What the fuck?". And that was all I was muttering the entire 2 hours and 17 minutes of Midsommar's glory, and I'm not even perplexed at all, nor disturbed, or shocked, I was simply having fun. I haven't had this fun watching a Horror movie since, never. I am just literally smiling all the time, laughing, and that's probably because I was stupid enough expecting it to be something else simply because it's Ari Aster. Do you feel held when watching a film? Do you feel like it's home? If not, you might find Midsommar doing just that even if it so far away from normal and with the intention to scare you.

If this doesn't pique your curiosity, perhaps if you haven't been stoned or you ponder what that might feel, this is as close as you can get from all the visuals, crafted artworks as props, camera play, and yes the defining glory of his works; the film scoring! I think the entire film is a concert. Watch it, have fun, and if you may, talk to me about it.
